Come Dive into My Universe!

“I would like to present my journey and some of the works I have created in Brazil. May they inspire you to commission a piece of art from me. Get to know how I plan to work here in the U.S., using art as a tool for inclusion.”

My background
My name is Nadja Gattas Bara, a Brazilian Italian visual artist with over 37 years of experience gained through working as artist and is also an entrepreneur.
I completed a bachelor’s degree in Drawing and Plastics Arts from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, located in the Federative Republic of Brazil.
I completed the Professional Development, in the online course School of Art History – From Prehistory to the Present Day with Dante Velloni. Additionally, I am currently enrolled in the online course Art Nouveau Across Europe at the University of Oxford, UK.
Right after graduating, my activities began with fiberglass-stained glass in a simple studio located in a historic warehouse, recognized as a heritage site in my city, in the square of the old train station in Juiz de Fora.

As my work grew, I established a legally registered company, the Arte de Novo LLC, on June 28, 1984, and had to move to a larger space. I used vibrant colors and created stained glass pieces in various styles. Later, I introduced a distinctive technique: sandblasting, which I continue to use to this day. On December 6, 2019, I arrived in the United States for my son’s graduation at Coastal Carolina University. Initially, my plan was to immigrate to Italy and start a new chapter in my life. However, the pandemic began shortly after, affecting precisely the region where my family lives—Bergamo. Given the circumstances, I decided to apply for a visa, and I had the honor of obtaining it under the Exceptional Ability category.

About my Art
My art is created on glass, mirrors, granite, or stone, engraved with designs selected from original book reproductions from the past century, printed in Europe.
As you will see in my portfolio, I provide some background on the artists whose work I have reproduced or who have inspired my own creations.
I’m happy to carry forward the Art Nouveau movement by reproducing its designs, spreading this expressive movement to all kinds of audiences, allowing me to feel that Art Nouveau remains alive through my work. My art
transcends time and demonstrates how the Art Nouveau Movement (1890–1910) can continue to be expressed in the present day.
By carefully selecting materials, refining lines, and perfecting intricate details, I ensure that each piece reflects both my artistic vision and my clients’ expectations.

About Sandblasting
Sandblasting is a refined technique used to etch intricate designs onto glass, mirrors, granite, and stone surfaces using an air compressor, a gun, and abrasive aluminum oxide grit.
This process creates a soft, frosted effect that enhances the beauty of the material without overpowering its surroundings. Check out the photos in my portfolio.

One of the greatest advantages of sandblasting is its durability—etched designs on glass withstand exposure to the elements, including rain, sun, heat, and cold, ensuring their permanence over time.
I specialize in bringing Art Nouveau-inspired designs to life through sandblasting. This timeless technique seamlessly integrates into residential and commercial spaces, adding elegance and sophistication.
